On Thursday, July 8, the jury met to determine the winner of the RE:FRAME design competition. Because everyone could subscribe to this contest the jury was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the entries. The jury consists of: Tejo Remy (designer), Meindert van den Heuvel (director Interbest, exploitation advertising sheets), Arnoud Litjens (founder Invention Group and judge TV show 'Green Dream District'), Hans van Nood (creative director 60 layers of cake, collaborative communication) and Suzanne Oxenaar (artistic director Lloyd Hotel & Cultural Embassy). The jury results will be announced late September during Dutch Design Double / Inside Design in Amsterdam, at the opening of the exhibition design of the nominees. Further details on date and location will follow soon.
Today is the submission date of the designs. Between 12:00 to 7:00 p.m. We also like to receive the digital RE:FRAME design printed, so that documentation is available for the jury. Judging is July 8, 2010.
At April 19, 2010, the RE:FRAME contest was closed. There were many designs entered and we are delighted by all the creativity. Beautiful, funny and fascinating chairs, lamps, tents and other products. And indeed, besides bags there are more designs possible of old advertising, scaffolding sheets! Mid June all submissions will be judged and in September a large number of designs will be shown in a traveling exhibition. To be continued!
One more week to go! The deadline for all entries is 19 April 2010. In the 'general conditions' you can read what participation does involve. First we ask you to email your design. Like pictures and a description. The delivery date of the design is mid June. All submissions will be judged and in September a large number of designs will be shown in a traveling exhibition on major design events in the Netherlands. Further notice follows, of course we await the first submissions. For those who are still busy and have too little material, please mail us and we will make an appointment!
And the jury members are...: Tejo Remy (designer), Harry Puts (founder Made in May, creative strategy for sustainable communication), Meindert van den Heuvel (director Interbest, exploitation advertising sheets), Arnoud Litjens (founder Invention Group and jury member television programme 'Green Dream District') and Suzanne Oxenaar (artistic director Lloyd Hotel & Cultural Embassy). We tried to make a nice mix in expertise in the field of communication, design and sustainability. We are proud that they all join!
RE:FRAME is being made possible by sponors like Van Straaten printmedia, Interbest, BlowUp Media, Dutch Design Double / Inside Design and Me Studio. From now on we have another fan! DOEN Foundation, the fund from the Dutch charity lotteries. DOEN helps us with financial support for organizing the exhibition. We are very glad that we can now show the designs (in process) in the best way.
We have noticed that everybody found out for themselves what is possible or not possible with the material, while we also could share this information with each other. What kind of glue you can use for example? Which kind of needle goes through it and what happens if you heat the PVC? We would like you to give the possibility to share these tips and tricks. Which will be very handy we think. From this moment on it will be online!
We have postponed the deadline for three months to April 19th 2010. It is three monts ago that we started the RE:FRAME design competition. Since then about 80 people have entered the competition and we are very happy with so many enthousiastic reactions. Besides this a partner of 60 layers of cake wants to start next year with the competition in Instanbul, Turkey.
What can you design from scaffolding sheeting apart from bags?
On September the 19th is the kick-off of a design competition during Dutch Design Double / Inside Design in the Amsterdam Lloyd Hotel. Designer Tejo Remy (known for the 'Chest of Drawers','Milk Bottle Lamp' and 'Rag Chair') and Jos van der Meulen (the 'Paperbag') are asked to keep an inspirational speech about creative recycling. Designers, inventors and otherwise interested people are very welcome at this informal gathering.
